Eid Staycation at St. Regis Doha

Eid staycations are getting more and more popular what with a week of holidays for most of the people and also as the eids now falling in the intense summer heat . This Eid Al-Fitr we had the chance to stay at the St. Regis Doha.

After a hectic but super fun Eid, we did a late check in on the third day.  Despite the rush, we were promptly attended to and upgraded to a sea view room on the 5th floor.

The view from our room was  pretty, though kind of obstructed because of the angle, but still we had a gorgeous view of their huge pool and a bit of the distant sandy beachfront.

The room was lovely, with luxurious interiors and  a vast space. There was enough space for the two baby cots that fit in comfortably along with the king sized bed, huge work desk, a big plush sofa and a coffee table. There was a nice welcome message but what I found weird were the welcome treats, or the lack of it. Its rather unusual as all 5 star hotels seem to have it. I am not sure if it was supposed to serve as one, but I later found two tiny individually packed (and really delicious) dates on each bed-side table.

The bathroom was luxurious with ornate tiling, deluxe toiletries and a separate covered area for the WC and a lovely rain shower. My pet peeve was the almost see-through glass door of the bathroom, which gave a rather candid view of the bathtub (complete with a TV!)

After relaxing in our room for a while, we went down to explore the property a little. It was quite a rushed evening, the lobby and lounge were  crowded as they had a large screening of the World Cup in one of the restaurants. We went out and took a walk around the pools and sat down near the beach to watch the Eid fireworks at Katara. It was a memorable experience watching it from the beach and our kids totally loved it.

The next morning we had our breakfast at the Vine restaurant. Its served at both Opal and Vine, and the guests  get to choose. The menu is same in both the places but the start time differs – with one starting as early as 6 and the other one at 8. The buffet was really good and varied with Arabic and Continental breakfast favorites, a raw bar, and different live stations. All things tasted amazing.

That day and the next was spent enjoying our comfy beds, quick relaxing breaks at Ramede Spa in their huge jaccuzzi, and in the evenings – as the temeprtarures dipped a little – lounging and splashing around the pool areas. The on-site pool is really impressive. The kids pool is next to it and was quite crowded. The kids loved splashing around in it and in between running off to the inflatable slide on the grass around. The staff is attentive, passing around clean beach towels, cold water bottles and some sunscreen for both the adults and the kids.

Just next to the kids pool were the private cabanas and one of them housed the Kid’s Recreation Club which was where my kiddos spent most of their time. It was filled to the brim with fun toys and games and was attended by caring staff who helped the children enjoy all the activities.

Throughout our stay we were attended to all  our requests at the room. There was a delay in getting our baby cots to the room despite informing them to place them before our check-in. It was probably due to the high occupancy rate. All other requests were attended to in a more or less timely manner. I was initially a little confused as where exactly to place our requests but it turns out that the famous and unique St. Regis butler service is to help out with all your needs. They have a whatsapp number where you can conveniently just text your request. They even help with the packing and unpacking upon request, which I thought was really cool. Our stay was short, with a late check in and I also made a quick dash back home for some work the next day, so I hadn’t carried much stuff with me. But if I were to be on a vacation, with my usual truckload of luggage, I would so use it!

To sum up we had a fantastic Eid Staycation at their luxurious property. It’s a great place to enjoy some water fun and activities for the kids. Makes for a really kid friendly destination for a mini vacation close to home.
